Product Photography

The brief in this assignment is from a client that wanted photographs of their product. The execution of the photography has to be creative and visually captivating. They needed photos in different formats for different platforms. Portrait orientation (A4) for posters and magazine, etc, landscape orientation (1920px x 1080px) for websites, banners billboards, etc, and a square format for social media such as instagram. I could choose between using different photos for the different formats, or cropping one photo to the different formats. Either way, I needed to be mindful with the composition when photographing.

The product I’ve photographed is a perfume. The perfume is called Acqua di Gioia, and are from the brand Girgio Armani.I wanted the photos to be creative and visually pleasing. The intent behind the photos is to sell a product, so I needed to take photos that would present the product in an effective manner. The style of the photos also had to match the brand. The photos are not only going to sell a product but also a brand. And typical for exclusive high-end brands as Giorgio Armani is the personality. The personality of the brand has to shine through the photos.

The brand is built on 3 pillars: class, quality and exclusivity. Their signature qualities are elegance, sophistication and comfort, and their designs are designed with clean lines and understated elegance. Armani’s designs have always been built with enduring substance to last through fashion trends, as opposed to be thrown away after one season. Armani themselves describes the brand as Elegant, modern and sophisticated.

To match the brand and their style and trait I’ve chosen to make the photos simple and minimalistic, with few elements. I want the style of the photos to be classic, elegant and timeless. The product is the main focus and I’ve chosen to emphasize the inspation behind the perfume and the perfumes name. Therefor I’ve used water as the supporting element to the perfume in the photos. The photos are on the darker side with dark shadows, which matches the typical esthetic of the brand. I’ve edited the photos with the intention of highlighting the true color of the perfume, a light blue-green color. The composition of the photos are simple. I have places the item in the the center of every photo, this gives the photos a calm balance.
